Enabling them to enter main stream education

  • Learning focus on very basic non formal preprimary education like manners, cleanliness, sitting still, obey
  • Making our children get admission in regular schools, both Govt. & Private
  • Providing nutritious midday meals, regular health/medical checkups, and scheduled immunization.
  • Providing uniforms, sweaters, socks and shoes.
  • 18 Balwadis in Delhi
  • More the 1000 students, 3 to 5 years old, pre school
  • Helping for verbal understanding of basic English

The Balwadi project across the board is not just a task of keeping average 50 children per school for few hours, getting used to school environment, learn discipline and interact with others. They get snacks before they leave. The aim of the programme is the care & education of children slum areas to enable those who are 5 plus to be admitted into main schools and thereby main stream education.

Modus operandi focus is on PLAYWAY method of education, in these budding stars. Little homework is given daily, to keep them engaged at home also.

Teachers facilitate group learning, with individual and chorus repetition of various basic fundamental words.

We have teachers and helpers in all 18 schools and they are paid a salary every month. The Doctors are also paid for their consultation visits and simple medicines are also kept in the Balwadis.

NARRATION OF A CHILD OF BALWADI

There are 50 of us, all 3-4 years old; we start our day with an assembly, where we all pray together.  Our teachers play with us and we learn many things. I can recognize all colours in English; I can draw many pictures, make different toys with clay. I know now how to keep myself neat and clean. Two aunties make very tasty food for us, everyday, which we enjoy a lot. I bring all my books, note books, pencils every day to school, in my bag, all of which my teacher gave us. My teacher also gave me school uniform, which I wear daily to school.

On 14th November we all went to Lajpat Nagar and celebrated children’s day. I also participated with the group and sang a song. We celebrate Holi, Diwali and other festivals also.

We went to picnic, last Sunday, where we played and enjoyed a lot throughout the day. My parents will be given my report card, which will help me in my further education in a big school.

We will be here for only 2 years, but I don’t want to leave, I love my school, my teachers, Ayas all of them.
